I’m sitting in a motel room where I was hoping to have wifi and write up a decent post with a video diary for the past few days, but wifi and data coverage have been hard to find up here. I think I have just enough signal to write this up from my phone before I head out today.
In Whitehorse I got new tires and met a handful of riders heading up this way. While none of us are on the same exact schedule, it’s good to know who is in the area. A few of us exchanged inReach numbers just in case, as well.
I decided to change my plans and head to just outside of Dawson City last night to hit the weather window a bit better. It was a pretty long day on the pavement to get here (with a bit of rain and some nasty construction mud), but the views were good from the road and I met a couple of other travelers. The damage from the wildfire that had shut down the road was also eerily cool to ride through.
It still might rain on my way back, but the way up to Tuktoyaktuk looks pretty clear. I’m hoping to make it out and back in four days. The total out and back distance is 1150 miles, so it should be doable pretty easily if the road and weather cooperate. Most people I’ve met have said the road conditions are pretty good, and at least the ferry is back up and running.
I probably won’t be about to post anything until I get back to Dawson City, but I’ll be taking a rest day to hopefully get everything uploaded and written up.
